BRENT MAHER

A five-time Grammy Award winner, Maher has become one of Country Music’s most successful and critically acclaimed producers and hit songwriters, with over 20 number one singles, numerous top ten singles and a wide array of platinum and multi-platinum selling albums. His credits read as a “Who’s Who” of recording artists, working with The Judds, Jo Dee Messina, Shelby Lynne, Kenny Rogers, Kathy Mattea, Nickel Creek, Wynonna, Carl Perkins, Bobby Darin, Olivia Newton-John, Dottie West, Ike & Tina Turner and many others.

As a songwriter, Maher’s accomplishments include numerous number one singles, and he’s received over thirty awards from ASCAP and the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). He also received an award for Song of the Year by the Academy of Country Music for the Judds’ career making single, “Why Not Me.” One of the key ingredients to Maher’s successful songwriting is that he writes songs for all of the projects that he produces and often creates the breakthrough singles for these artists. Maher’s bluesy, country songs became a signature sound for The Judds as he went on to write a string of hits, including “Girls Night Out,” “Rockin’ With The Rhythm Of The Rain,” “Born To Be Blue,” “Let Me Tell You About Love” and many others. Maher also wrote the hit singles “Some Kind Of Trouble,” (Tanya Tucker), “Lesson In Leavin’ (Jo Dee Messina), and “When Love Starts Talkin’” (Wynonna) among other recordings by artists such as Tina Turner, Kenny Rogers, Kathy Mattea, Dottie West, Carl Perkins, Shelby Lynne, and others.

One of Maher's many successes as a producer came as a result of his discovering The Judds and developing their now famous acoustic country sound. He produced all ten of The Judds’ records, with additional production credits including Kathy Mattea’s Grammy winning album and Shelby Lynne’s critically acclaimed big band album “Temptation.” Teaming up again with Wynonna, Maher produced her solo album, “The Other Side.” He then produced the Kenny Rogers come back hits, “The Greatest” and “Buy Me A Rose.” Maher’s passion for music is driven by the time he spends in the studio ensuring that every note works in bringing great songs to life. Most recently, Maher has finished records on Jo Dee Messina, Kenny Rogers, and a band comprised of seven Russian musical prodigies – Bering Strait. Maher encouraged Bering Strait to write an instrumental for their album that resulted in a Grammy nomination.

Maher began his career as an engineer in the late sixties at Monument Records in Nashville, before moving to Las Vegas to serve as chief engineer of United Recording. There he began working with the industry’s biggest stars including Tina Turner, Gladys Knight, Diana Ross, Chuck Berry, Duke Ellington, Sly & the Family Stone and many others. During that time he worked on some the decade’s biggest hits ranging from Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary” to the Fifth Dimensions’ “Aquarius.” Moving back to Nashville in the mid-seventies, Maher engineered Elvis’ last number one hits, “Way Down” and “Pledging My Love.”
