Kieran Kane

From the very beginning of his musical career, Kieran Kane has done things his own way. Kane has spent his entire life immersed in music – the only ‘job’ he has ever had. Kieran has enjoyed chart success and notoriety as both an artist and songwriter, first as a member of the immensely successful duo “The O’Kanes” and since then as a solo artist. Growing up in New York, he developed an unlikely passion for bluegrass and old old-time country music. This passion for music led him to Boston and Los Angeles before settling in Nashville to pursue a songwriting career. Ironically, he soon landed his first record deal with Electra in 1980.

From his Top 10 appearances as a solo artist in the early 80’s, to a successful stint as one half of the O’Kanes in the late 80’s, Kane has influenced the texture of Country Music. The O’Kanes had six Top 10 singles and lead the charge of acoustic, bluegrass influenced music in the Country mainstream. After the O’Kanes disbanded, Kane signed to Atlantic Records again as a solo artist in the early 90’s and through it all Kane has never compromised artistic vision. Kane has released several critically acclaimed albums on his own label Dead Reckoning, formed with fellow writer/aritst Kevin Welch. Kane’s combination of country and bluegrass with infectious grooves has produced a sound that continues to separate him from the crowd. He writes until the song vibrates with some truth to him saying, “There is no trickery in my writing. There are no hidden meanings. They are exactly what they appear to be; they are songs.” Music Row Magazine says of Kieran’s music, “If you don’t dig this, you’re deaf.”

Aside from his career as an artist, Kieran’s songwriting credits include such respected artists as Emmylou Harris, Trisha Yearwood, Kathy Mattea, Randy Travis, Tom Jones, Alabama, George Jones & Tammy Wynette, John Prine and many others. Kieran’s songwriting talent took him to the top of the charts again as the sole writer of Alan Jackson’s award winning hit “I’ll Go On Loving You.” Most recently, Kane produced a gospel album on, Isaac ‘Dickie’ Freeman, the legendary, seventy three year old bass singer from the Fairfield Four. Freeman’s CD Beautiful Stars was released in Spring 2002 on Lost Highway Records and has already been hailed as a classic.

Kane’s latest release, titled You Can’t Save Everybody, is a collaboration with fellow Dead Reckoners Kevin Welch and Fats Kaplin. It features 12 cuts, all acoustic, with Kevin and Kieran trading off vocals and an instrumental cut featuring Fats on fiddle.

Also a talented visual artist, Kane’s paintings are in demand the world over. Visit his new website, KieranKane.org, to see or purchase his art.
